Tips for Preparing for a Medical Spa Treatment

Failing to prepare is preparing to fail! If you have never had a medical spa treatment before, it can be hard to know what to expect. Pre-procedure instructions are pivotal but not commonly known by first-time patients unless you’ve done a substantial amount of research.

Calvine Medical Aesthetics offers several different medical procedures, such as chemical peels, laser removal, injections, and skin treatments as a solution for hyperpigmentation, wrinkles, and other skin maladies. Before experiencing treatment, it is always beneficial to prepare before your appointment to make sure your treatment is pleasant and effective.

Prior to Your Appointment

It is important to be cognizant of your schedule and any upcoming events when planning to have a medical procedure. You want to allow sufficient time for the treatment and any products to settle in and take their true form. You can help our doctors and staff at Calvine Medical Aesthetics ensure that you receive the expected results you want by scheduling your procedure at least two weeks in advance of any upcoming events.

Avoid blood thinners such as Aspirin, Motrin, Ibuprofen, Aleve, and fish oil up to a week before your treatment as these medications have the possibility of increasing bruising. It is also advised not to indulge in any alcohol the night before your treatment as it can enlarge blood vessels and make you more susceptible to bleeding, bruising, and swelling. Although there is always the possibility of bruising or swelling with a medical procedure, proactive preparation can minimize that chance.

Whether you’re planning on a facial or laser treatment, it is important to wash and clean your face and body thoroughly to clear the skin prior to the procedure. It’s not ideal to layer on any thick products after cleansing, as the doctor or esthetician will carefully remove any built-up product anyway.

The Day of Your Appointment

Show up to your appointment early to allow yourself time to read any pretreatment information and fill out necessary paperwork. You should be able to sit and absorb the information in a timely manner rather than brush it off because you’re running late. Ideally, you should come to your appointment alone, unless advised otherwise. We want to collaborate with you on what to expect from the procedure and focus on providing you the quality work you can expect from Calvine Medical Aesthetics.

It is imperative that you are honest about your medical history. Disclosing any conditions or past treatments will help ensure that you receive the cosmetic results you want. Some treatments can increase the risk of irritation and other side effects if performed too close together.

If you are in for a touch-up, be as honest as possible about what you like and/or dislike about your previous results. Early communication helps us better address your needs and wants. You should also be vocal during your treatment. If you are in pain or uncomfortable at any point during the procedure, please let us know - we never want you to suffer in silence!

If you’re planning on a laser hair removal appointment or something similar, don’t be afraid to show some skin. We understand how baring it all can be uncomfortable, but now’s not the time to be shy. Try to relax, and remember that each session will get easier.

Following your procedure, it is important to follow any treatment instructions from your doctor or esthetician or you may jeopardize getting the desired results and increase the risk of undesirable side effects. Sometimes, less is more - don’t overdo any product just because you feel it will speed up or magnify your results.

At Calvine Medical Aesthetics we want to do everything we can to guarantee your visit with us is nothing short of excellence. Implementing the aforementioned steps prior to and during your appointment will help you achieve the optimal results you’re looking for.
